A few days ago I made a post on my instagram asking if Dirty Hair Growing was a myth or a fact? The responses I received were mind blowing. As a child I always heard that statement in my household. That one saying had me thinking I didnt have to wash my hair often. Which is also another statement that many people live by. But, the TRUTH is unless you have underlying issues causing your hair not to grow, your hair grows 1/2 inch PER EVERY MONTH!.That's about 6 inches of hair growth per year. And, that's on clean or dirty hair.
Here is the REAL myth, "Dirty hair grows faster."
When you are wearing your protective styles, or not doing anything to your hair, that is not helping your hair grow faster. It may seem like that because you are not fixated on watching the actual growth every month. Think about it, You aren’t doing your daily length checks(y’all know what I’m talking bout!) So, when you finally look at your progress it seems as if its longer.
Although sometimes not doing anything to your hair may seem like it helps with growth, keep in mind that dirty hair isn‘t always the way to go.
Dirty hair can play a part in hair breakage or even burnt hair, when you try to flat iron or curl your hair if it‘a not clean. Dirty hair can also add to build up on your hair if you are constantly putting product on top of product. A dirty scalp can clog your pores in your scalp which could clog where your follicle comes out. Dirty hair can also cause your hair to smell.
Here is another REAL myth, "Clean hair grows faster".
Clean hair doesn’t go any faster. Washing your hair daily is not going to make your hair grow any faster than the average rate. Clean hair does have its benefits though! Clean hair allows you to remove any build up off of your hair shaft. Having a clean scalp promotes hair growth! (remember you dont want to clog your pores). Clean hair makes your hair look shiny! Who doesn’t want that?
*Always keep in mind , your scalp produces it’s own oils! Those oils get distributed through your hair by way of combing and washing your hair! Having clean hair and a clean scalp helps to keep your hair on the right track!
